Content Production Assistant
Job Duties:
Support the Marketing and Communications team for Electrical and Computer Engineering in finding innovative and effective methods of video and/or article-based storytelling to support the overall outreach of the department and the discipline. Be responsible for creating engaging short-form video content for YouTube and social media platforms that covers departmental events, research projects, and student activities. Be responsible for searching for departmental news and shaping a story by finding the best narrative and voice, either written and/or video-based. Be able to demonstrate format and audience understanding when creating media for multiple different platforms. Additionally, craft video and written content to be used in new STEM educational settings.
Individuals will be responsible for filming with DSLR, mirrorless, specialty and professional camcorder equipment, capturing clean location audio, and editing filmed content into a final product. Be responsible for both finding stories to tell and how to tell them, as well as taking and completing predefined assignments.
Additional Information:
The ideal undergraduate candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to multitask. Some video or photo content production experience is expected, in addition to some experience working with a linear editing application, such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut. Some coursework or experience in journalism is preferred. Training on the specific platforms for capture and editing will be provided.

Media Intern (2016)
Job Description and Any Special Skills:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to social media engagement on behalf of ECE, news reporting of relevant events and accomplishments, various photo and video assignments, and updating of web content. The position requires the ability to organize information in a coherent manner, be able to work independently and display initiative when appropriate.
The position is a flexible work situation with the ideal candidate working in 1-3 hour blocks spread over the week, with some of those hours not requiring on-site attendance.
The applicant should have a strong written command of English and be able to communicate effectively in a professional journalistic style. Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram social networks is desired. Training and guidance will be provided for relevant tasks, but applicants must be capable of taking instruction and applying it.
Graphic Designer
Job Duties
Interested in branching out your design skills and building a real-world portfolio? Get valuable experience working on cross-medium/team projects as well as client-style projects while building your skills in communicating concepts through art.
Support the Marketing and Communications team for Electrical and Computer Engineering through creative and effective design for both outreach and science communication.
This position is tasked with creating both original and iterative designs with the structure of the NC State brand ranging from event and activity promotion to visualization of technical topics.
The role does not require a technical understanding of electrical or computer engineering topics, but will provide the ability for a successful candidate to learn how to intersect visual arts and science/engineering communication.
Individuals will be responsible for creating content for:
- Print (magazine, flyer, banners)
- Video (on-screen content explanation)
- Social media (promotional graphics)
- News (companion graphics for news articles)
- Research (infographic style for research posters as needed)
- Building (showcasing “engineering on display” to enhance visitor experience)
The position will work alongside the Communications Manager and Marketing Specialist to create cohesive material that showcases engineering at NC State.
Additional Information
The ideal undergraduate candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multitasking ability. Digital graphic design experience is expected, and the role can adapt based on preferred creation media. The position is intended to be 10 hours per week during the academic year
Writer (Grad Student)
NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Description
The NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship writer will collaborate with the marketing and communications coordinator to identify stories that connect, inspire and strengthen the brand of NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The writer will take direction from the marketing coordinator as well as independently identify opportunities for story telling to pitch to the marketing coordinator. The writer will use the most appropriate methods of interviewing and gleaning information, create drafts of news posts for review, and incorporate any feedback to create the final publication.
Responsibilities
- Write stories by interviewing faculty and students, attending events or sharing research.
- Glean information from multiple sources independently using search engines, NC State websites and logic to fill in gaps and provide appropriate context in stories.
- Consider the intended audience and target them based on their drivers with the assistance of the marketing coordinator.
- Assist in identifying relevant stories and develop content for department and program websites by keeping abreast of current topics and goals in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
- Write approximately 2-3 news stories per month with some exceptions. The time spent per story is variable based on the story requirements and dependence on collaborators.
- Take opportunities for professional development to develop new skills in marketing, communications, writing, innovation and entrepreneurship. These opportunities should be performed while clocked in.
- Work with other team members at NC State on projects with shared goals.
Requirements
- Familiar with or can easily adapt to AP style.
- Able to connect facts and knowledge and build messaging around that; ie brand messaging should be woven into stories with a call to action at the end.
- Ability to conduct interviews, use appropriate tech to capture information and transform that into engaging content. Marketing coordinator to support the writer by sharing tools and resources as needed.
- Interest in innovation and entrepreneurship or ability to quickly appreciate the nuances of the field as well as activities conducted by Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The marketing manager and the writer will have bi-weekly meetings via zoom or in-person to discuss project status, brainstorm content ideas and provide feedback/answer questions. These can also take the form of asynchronous communication using technology or project management tools.
